Exploiting Solar Energy during an Aerial Mapping Mission on a Lightweight UAV

In this study, we present options for extending the endurance of a lightweight unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), along with their advantages and disadvantages. We developed solution based on use gallium–arsenide (GaAs) solar modules installed UAV connected to custom-made maximum power point tracker (MPPT) an integrated perturb observe (P&O) algorithm. The mathematical behavior required calculate electrical energy production from known angles rotation, position sun in sky, irradiance measurements, module area efficiency is presented. A comparison calculated actual measured results during mapping mission perform number flights experimental confirm value more than 96.27% MPPT extended flight by up 21.25%. addition, onboard measurements other data captured proposed calculation.
